Import rules and regulations for Japanese used cars in Pakistan

The Japanese automobile industry is one of the most prominent and largest industries in the world. Japanese vehicles are engineered properly and are safe to drive, that’s why Japanese cars operate well. There is no doubt that Japanese are more devoted towards their work, hence the end result are always a vehicle that one feels proud to drive. Not only new vehicles, even used automobile sector of the country is famous among masses across the world. People are willing to buy a used vehicle as even though the vehicle is used, but still its overall condition is excellent and are available at practical prices. These vehicles are popular for less engine trouble and their superb quality. Pakistan, situated in the western part of Indian subcontinent is a major importer of second-hand cars from Japan. Japanese used cars are popular in Pakistan due to their durability and high technology. In Pakistan it is allowed to import right hand drive vehicles.

Day by day the popularity and the market of Japanese used vehicles is increasing tremendously. Every day, thousands of used vehicles are exported from Japan to various countries across the world. In Pakistan, only Pakistan Nationals living abroad under "special regime" are allowed to import used vehicles if their importation is due to one of three factors: a transfer of residence, a gift or personal baggage. In addition, it is allowed to import only one vehicle under the special regime every two years. If the car is imported due to a transfer of residence, then the importer must have resided outside Pakistan for at least two years prior to the date of importation. The car may only qualify as a gift if it is for a parent, a son or daughter, a spouse or a sibling.

• Transfer of residence: Applicable terms and conditions
• Used cars or other allowed vehicles can be imported once in two years.
• Cars to be imported meant for transport of passengers, buses, vans, trucks & pickup including 4X4 vehicles Agricultural tractors, bulldozers, laser land levelers and combined harvesters, motorcycles and scooter.
• A minimum of 700 days stay out-side Pakistan during the immediately preceding three years from the date of application.
• Any stolen vehicle or with chassis tampered or having fake and forge Documents not allowed.
Documents required for import
• Goods declaration in the prescribed form as per AnnexureI.
• Purchase receipt of the vehicle.
• Bill of Lading, if applicable, dated not later than 120 days from the arrival of the applicant.
• Attested photo copy of the passport or Pakistan origin card (Original will be required at the time of clearance).
• Valid driving license of the applicant.
• Acknowledged copy of the declaration given to the customs on arrival by the applicant.
• Gift: Applicable terms and conditions
• Used cars or other allowed vehicles can be imported once in two years.
• Cars to be imported meant for transport of passengers, buses, vans, trucks & pickup including 4X4 vehicles, Agricultural tractors, bulldozers, laser land levelers and combined harvesters.
• A minimum of 700 days stay out-side Pakistan during the immediately preceding three years from the date of application.
• Any stolen vehicle or with chassis tampered or having fake and forge documents not allowed.
• Donee has to be a family member normally resident in Pakistan.
• Gift can be by parents to children (adult)
• Gift can be by children (adult) to parents.
• By either of the spouse.
• By sister to sister or brother.
• By brother to brother or sister.
Documents required for import:
• Goods declaration in the prescribed form as per AnnexureI.
• Purchase receipt of the vehicle.
• Bill of Lading showing name and address of the consignee.
• Attested photo copy of the passport of Pakistan origin card of the donor.
• CNIC of the donee.
• Personal baggage: Applicable terms and conditions
• Used cars or other allowed vehicles can be imported once in two years.
• Cars to be imported meant for transport of passengers, buses, vans, trucks & pickup including 4X4 vehicles Agricultural tractors, bulldozers, laser land levelers and combined harvesters and motorcycles and scooter.
• A minimum of 180 days stay out-side Pakistan during the immediately preceding seven months from the date of application.
• Any stolen vehicle or with chassis tampered or having fake and forge documents not allowed.
Documents required for import:
• Goods declaration in the prescribed form as per AnnexureI.
• Purchase receipt of the vehicle.
• Bill of Lading, if applicable, dated not later than 120 days from the arrival of the applicant.
• Attested photo copy of the passport or Pakistan origin card (Original will be required at the time of clearance).

Major port in Pakistan for shipment of used vehicles in Pakistan is Karachi port. RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off) shipment method is generally used for vehicle shipment. However, on request of customers more safe and fast container method is used.
