Manual cars versus Automatic cars

Manual transmission cars are cars in which drivers can change the gears as per needs and these cars come with a manual clutch pedal used while changing gears, whereas Automatic transmission cars do not come with a clutch pedal. In these cars a hydraulic torque convertor replaces clutch-plate mechanism. Automatic transmission offers easy and less complex drive, but Manual transmission gives the driver more control over the vehicle and are less fuel consuming. There are numerous Japanese used cars available in the market with either Manual transmission or Automatic transmission.

Manual Cars :-

Manual Transmission popularly known as MT is a transmission that permits the driver to select any forward gear ratio at any time. Manual transmission cars generally come with a clutch and shifter. The base model of car is generally equipped with a conventional five or six gearbox, as the standard equipment. Manual transmission offers more fun to driving as it involves more driving skills. In the late 19th century, Louis-René Panhard and Emile Levassor invented the earliest form of a manual transmission

Cars with Manual transmission are more favored in Europe, Asia and developing nations. Manual transmissions offer more direct driver involvement and better performance that’s why Sports cars are often equipped with them.

Many Benefits associated with Manual transmission :-

  • Low cost and durability of Vehicle : - Manual Transmission cars are mechanically simpler and manufactured more easily, thus are available at much lower prices than automatic, this result in their popularity in developing nations. As Mechanical parts are simpler, they are more durable and long lived.
  • Performance and control :- Manual Car offers drivers more direct control over the car than an automatic. The manual transmission remains smaller and much more compact than automatic transmission even with more forward speeds and the potential of developing more forward gears to offer higher speed.
  • Engine Braking :- Manual transmissions have more efficient braking system. The engine slows down as effectively as the driver releases the engine speed control, which leads to more break life. This is one of the many reasons why Manual transmission is in demand in the market.
  • Fuel economy :- Manual Cars are mechanically much simpler and have fewer moving parts than an automatic transmission, so generally offer better fuel economy than automatic or continuously variable transmissions. The increased number gears allows for better use of the engine’s power band. Thus, allowing increased fuel economy, by staying in the most fuel-efficient part of the power band, or higher performance, by staying closer to the engine’s peak power.

Automatic Cars :-

An Automatic Transmission (commonly “AT” or “Auto”) was invented in 1921 by Alfred Horner Munro of Regina. Automatic Transmissions have an automobile gearbox that can change gear ratios automatically as the vehicle moves. Automatic transmission offers easy and less complex drive. To manage the connection between the transmission gearing and the engine, instead of a straight friction clutch, a conventional automatic transmission uses a torque converter. Automobile manual transmissions are built with as few as two and as many as eight gears. Nowadays, all cars are available with an automatic transmission option. Most Hybrids are also available with automatic transmissions.

Many Benefits associated with Automatic transmission :-

  • Faster Shift of Speed :- Automatic transmissions can shift ratios faster and much easier than a manual gear change. Especially in case of dual clutch transmissions, which are specialized computer-controlled manual transmissions.
  • Easy to Drive :- Drivers are free from the clutch in Automatic cars, so these cars are comfortable to drive and change of speed is lots easier to do. An automatic transmission also keeps your hands and feet available while you are driving and let you respond to situations more quickly.
  • Suitable for stop-and-go driving and hills :- Automatic transmissions come with a hydraulic torque converter which is externally cooled, unlike a clutch. Thus, are best suited for these applications.
  • Part wear tear is Lower :- Automatic cars are popular as they have comparatively lesser wear and tear of components and spares.

Manual transmission car can be an option if one have fixed budget and wants best fuel efficiency, but if one wants comfort and luxury, then car with an Automatic transmission can be a choice. Both Manual and Automatic cars have their advantages and benefits. Thus, it is completely buyer’s decision to acquire a car of his preference. Whether you want to buy a car for highways or you’re a racing enthusiast, go for the one that meet up your needs.
