Industrial production of the country is largely represented by gold production; to be precise gold is the largest export commodity for Kyrgyzstan. The country has no local automobile production and as a result almost all vehicles in Kyrgyzstan are imported. The automobile sector of Kyrgyzstan is not well-developed, although it has witnessed steady growth in the past few years. Hence, the transport and sale of used vehicles became very profitable for small and mid-sized businesses.

As the country does not have any local production of vehicles, it relies completely on import, mostly used cars. The major countries from which Kyrgyzstan import used cars are Japan, Germany, Russia, United States and South Korea. Earlier, Germany was the major exporter of cars to Kyrgyzstan, but in the last few years, the trend has shifted towards Japan, Russia, United States and South Korea. Out of all countries, used vehicles from Japan have become very popular in the country, because even though they are used they almost look like new ones and are available at much lesser prices than cars from other countries. Toyota is a leader in the market of used cars in the country, followed by Honda, and Nissan.

There are certain regulations that should be followed by the importer while importing the vehicle in the country. It is allowed to import left hand drive vehicles in Kyrgyzstan. Vehicles imported are subjected to inspection by authorizations. The demand for vehicles in the country is rising as for every 1000 people, there are 50 cars available. Easy availability of spare parts makes used Japanese vehicles popular in the country.

The limited size of new car market and limited growth potential has given fair chance to used car exporters to enter into the market. The automotive market of Kyrgyzstan is increasing and does hold many opportunities for used car exporters. In order to attain maximum benefit, exporters should come up with different.
