Why & how to check Manufacturing year of the used car to be imported from Japan?

Japan is a source of automobile industry. Large numbers of vehicles are manufactured and exported from Japan. Like new vehicles, huge numbers of used vehicles are also imported from Japan. Importation of used vehicles from Japan is very popular in almost every country in the World. People prefer to buy a second-hand car from Japan as buying a car from Japan is an easy process. Plus, one gets a better quality car at cheaper rates.

While importing a Japanese used vehicle, dealing with import regulations which differ from country to country is a difficult process. However, it is necessary to follow import rules and regulations of the particular country in order to import the vehicle in a legal manner. The increase in the popularity of used cars from Japan has made Government of many countries to impose strict import rules and regulations. This is to avoid importing useless or vehicles that are hazardous to the environment of their country.

A most common restriction on a Japanese used car from the Government of any country was related to manufacturing year of the vehicle importing to their country. Actually in Japan, it is easy to know the details of first registration, but the manufacturing year of the vehicle is not written on the export deregistration certificate or not even on Car Registration Certificate.

In some countries, while importing a used vehicle it is necessary to mention the manufacturing year. Some countries do not accept the first registration because the first registration means the month and the year of the first ownership of the vehicle in Japan, which does not provide any information about when the vehicle was actually manufactured. This the main problem which an importer face while buying any used car from Japan as to match his country’s importing regulations.

For instance in Kenya, age restriction on imported used vehicle is to maximum 8 years back. So, if we take this year as 2013, then importation of used vehicle only after 2005 is allowed. It is not permitted to import any used car from Japan before this year.

Most of the cases especially of well-known manufacturers of cars don’t having too much difference between the first registrations and manufacturing year of the car, it could be up to 2 months but it can be longer in case of the less popular cars.

It is necessary for buyers to know all import rules and regulations for their nation before buying a used vehicle from Japan. Nowadays, many Japanese exporters provide free service to used vehicle importer by giving online solutions to check and verify the manufacturing year & in most cases manufacturing month of the used vehicle they are going to buy. For that importers or buyers just have to enter the Chassis number and select the vehicle maker’s name.
