Coupé or Sedan- which one to buy?

When someone asks you to choose between a fluffy chocolate cake and a fruity baked apple pie, the decision is always difficult and annoying. However, in order to choose between the two one should know what a cake and pie is. Same goes with the vehicles. Whether one is shopping for a new vehicle or a used one, it is important to have information regarding the vehicle that one is purchasing.

Since ages there has been a debate over the difference between the two. According to many definitions, sedans are four-door vehicles, and coupés are two-door model. However, there is more to it. Four door or two door-

By definition, the sedan is a car that comes with two full rows of seats and four doors. It is roomy, comfortable car with ample room for five adult passengers including a driver. It’s not that there aren’t any four-door coupés or two-door sedans, but still in comparison to three seats, a coupé with a four-door limits the back seat to two passengers only.

The distinction between a coupé and a sedan can be done on the basis of door, but for real division, difference between the measurements is considered. On technicality basis, coupé is a fixed-top car that comes with a rear interior volume of less than 33 cubic feet. While sedan has an interior that is equal to or greater than 33 cubic feet.

Even with the technical difference of interior volume between the two body types, many automobile manufacturers the words ‘sedans’ and ‘coupés’ as a marketing term to advertise their product.

Characteristic differences-

Coupés are generally closed-body style, and commonly described as sporty. While sedans are closed-roof style cars that are often described as spacious, family cars. They generally have fixed B-pillar between the front windows and rear windows. Both sedans and coupé come with the almost same set of standard features. Like most sedans, coupé have a standard trunk, however unlike their sedan counterparts, they provide less cargo space. Though difficult to believe, but it is occasionally cheaper to buy a sedan than a coupé.

Buying a vehicle is an important decision and one should go with the vehicle that completely solves the purpose of buying it. During buying, don’t go only for the looks; consider your driving habits also such as why you’re buying it, number of members in a family.
