Car Technologies and Innovations in 2015

Every day we hear or read about the announcement and launch of new products that have the potential to change the world. The advancement in technology has hit the automobile sector also. Today automobile makers aim at connecting cars and their passengers with the outside world in a safe and flawless manner. The technical expansion defines where our autos are going to be in the future. Over the years cars and their technologies have evolved a lot with features such as Bluetooth, USB, rear cameras becoming universal. Today, many automakers have launched vehicles loaded with high-tech features to make driving more pleasant and safe.

The launch of many technological innovations will change the way we see the world today. This year’s at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) many automakers has displayed some outstanding technological innovations. While it is still time for those technologies to become a part of our daily lives, but we can still have the idea of what they will look like. All innovations that took place are not always equal; some are more useful to humans in comparison to others. So, here are some of the latest features that are likely to be incorporated by automakers in their cars across the world in coming years.

Auto Driving Cars-

In the CES, luxury car manufacturer Mercedes has released a driverless car, F 015 Luxury in Motion. The car is driven by a fuel cell hybrid powertrain that powers the car up to 684 zero-emission miles, 560 of these on fuel cell-derived electricity and remaining on battery power. Its interior is a combination of fine walnut woods, metal, glass and ice-white Nappa leathers, along with the seats that spin around to face each other. This innovative four-seater is control through touch, gesture and eye tracking. The car can communicates with its surrounding both visually and acoustically.

Known for its luxury cars, BMW also showcased its latest BMW i3 luxury automatic cars. With the help of ActiveAssist system the car can prevent itself from hitting obstacles. The ActiveAssist system integrates numerous laser sensors for detecting the driver's accidental probability and can override the accelerator input and apply brakes. BMW claims this system can rescue the car from serious accidents, even by a few inches.

Audi also showcased its own version of driverless car. Audi calls its car “piloted driving” . The car can navigate on open roads without driver's input and can return back the control while cruising through the urban areas.

Volkswagen’s new in the Golf R Touch-

This year in CES, Volkswagen announced its gesture-controlled Golf R Touch concept and new autonomous parking technology. It works with gesture control and three separate large screens. With this technology, Volkswagen aim to replace all of the infotainment, climate and environment controls with proximity aware capacitive systems and gesture controls. To navigate and activate areas of the dashboard interface, the driver can make use of gesture controls, i.e. by holding their open hand, palm down over the shift knob.

Audi virtual cockpit and MMI-

When Mercedes, BMW are launching latest technologies, how come Audi remain behind. The “German Big 3” came up with the latest advancement, i.e. the virtual cockpit and MMI. The cockpit contains two main aspects: input and display. The chief innovation is display 12.3-inch, 1,440 x 540 pixel high-res screen, Nvidia Tegra 30 chip. Audi's MMI system offers a complete array of infotainment features, including music playback, navigation, and hands-free Bluetooth for voice calls.

Both virtual cockpit and MMI system are connected to the Internet via LTE, which converts the vehicle’s cabin into a Wi-Fi hotspot and allows the car’s passengers to connect their mobile devices to the Internet while the driver is able to receive customized online in-car services from the Audi connect portfolio.

Car-to-car communication-

Car-to-car communication or vehicle-to-vehicle communication, technology will help the cars to televise their speed, position, brake status, even steering-wheel position and other data to vehicles within the reach of few hundred meters. With the help of this information, other vehicles may draw the detailed picture of what’s around them and can avoid any trouble or accident that sometimes driver fail to foresee.

Even though there are already many cars that have instruments that use radar or ultrasound to detect any obstacle. But their range is limited to few cars only and they cannot see past the nearest obstruction. The innovation of this technology was not an easy challenge. To authenticate each message, transmitter uses a portion of wireless spectrum along with wireless standard, 802.11p. Computers onboard process the readings 10 times every second that are broadcast by other vehicles, each time calculating the chance of approaching collision.

Motorcycles navigation and communication-

Advancement in car technologies is a common thing, but motorcycles are not left out much from the picture lately. At CES 2015, Visteon showcased concept that offers motorist many features. The concept amalgamate a display on the motorcycle cluster, the helmet and the rider’s own Smartphone. To help riders with navigation there is a monochrome display next to the speedometer. The system relies on a Bluetooth-connected Smartphone running a special app. The app includes navigation, access to phone’s music library and hand-free phone calls. There is extra the ability to program in destination and vehicle-finder functionality for off-board use by the app. Through the hand free Bluetooth system rider could attend calls, listen to music and hear navigation voice prompts. The innovation would bring a great advancement in the motorcycle segment. However, it was not specified that when the system will hit the street.
