The New Mazda MX-5 Is Here

With the journey that started in 1989, Mazda MX-5 has been ruling the chart from past quarter-century. It has sold around a million units over the years. There have been total 3-generations in the history of Mazda with different designs and engine changes. The new edition of Mazda MX-5 was launched on September 4, 2014 in Urayasu, Mazda Motor Corp. The simultaneous event was organized in Barcelona, Spain and the United States, California. The two-seat convertible cars, featuring fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technology, will go on sale in 2015.

The one important thing about this model is its weight. Mazda has stated that the new MX-5 (Miata in US) sheds some 220 pounds. That means the new Mazda will weigh somewhere around 2,200 pounds. Plus, it comes with aluminum body panels to keep weight down. Along with the weight, the coupe has also lost 3 inches in length and half an inch in width.

Details on engine, horsepower haven't got revealed by Mazda yet, but here are details regarding the price and technology specs. Like in all other Miata’s, eager handling will be prioritized over raw power. As unveiled earlier this year, the exteriors of this rear-wheel drive are based on Shinari concept. The MX-5 still comes with high backed bucket seats. The Kodo design of the new MX-5 is same as that of both the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6.

Here are Japan specs of new MX-5. They may not be same for the rest of the world.

Mazda MX-5 Specifications :- Inside of new MX-5, is similar to the Mazda 3, having the same rotary control knob in the center console and the infotainment screen located above the dashboard. The bonnet of the car has been lowered and the LED headlamps and tail-lamps of the car are shorter at the front and rear end. It also has two USB ports on the center stack, a couple of flimsy pop-up cup holders near the rear bulkhead, and a wind blocker similar to outgoing cars. For better visibility it comes with thinner windscreen. One has loose his pocket to have a slick, metal folding roof.

Mazda MX-5 technology :- The new Mazda MX-5 will be powered with SKYACTIV technology, which is significantly responsible for 100kg weight saving. The engine of MX-5 will feature variable cam phasing, lighter, low-friction reciprocating parts, and possibly a new exhaust manifold design. With the new running gear, the engine position of Mazda is behind the front axle and closer to car's center than ever before. All these factors improve the handling by lowering the gravity and center.

This highly anticipated fourth generation Mazda Roadster will officially be launched in 2015. It is expected to make its North American debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show in November and in UK it will go on sale in summers next year.

The new MX-5 is launched with the purpose of providing low-cost light weight sports car. Mazda has designed this car more seriously as its interiors are of higher quality than its previous editions. The Turbo-charged version of this car might also be available at a higher price. To portion out the cost, Mazda has decided to develop a twin of Fourth-generation MX-5 with Fiat. Mazda will only share the architecture with Fiat, not styling and engines.

There is no question why Mazda MX is the best-selling convertible in the World. Mazda’s vehicles are known for fun to drive with proper attention towards safety of buyers. We hope this fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 will carry the legacy of Mazda and become Mazda’s perennial global car.
